RESUMO: As drogas exercem fascínio no homem desde a antiguidade.

ABSTRACT: Drugs have fascinated man since antiquity. The present work was based on the scientific and psychoanalytic literature on the use and abuse of alcohol and marijuana, aiming to describe some aspects about the history, consumption, social representation and effects in the body. At a last moment, the subjects’ relational aspects were analyzed, from their first family relations, their relations with society and with alcohol and / or marijuana, under a psychoanalytic approach, in the attempt to list some points that could elucidate the motive of some people change from use to abuse, becoming Chemical Dependents and others not, and in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the subject’s relationship to the drug.
When the use of drugs is no longer volitional and creates difficulties for the user, it becomes a concern not only for health professionals, because it encompasses the whole biopsychosocial context. Thus, the objective of this study is to theoretically assess the presence of drugs in society and the place it occupies in the subject’s life. Regardless of the reason for its use, what draws attention is the fact that chemical substances are commonly linked to the desire to mitigate existential discomfort, in an attempt by the subject to achieve some degree of happiness, or to alleviate suffering, be it psychic, organic, social and / or cultural.
