RESUMO: Este trabalho de conclusão de curso tem como objetivo principal analisar a ideia de medo nos Estados Unidos da América, principalmente na década 1980, tendo em vista a seguinte problemática: como a construção de uma nova tipificação social, o serial killer, permeou o imaginário estadunidense e possibilitou a construção de um novo medo social? Para tanto, foi utilizado como fonte para esta análise, o Romance Policial Post-mortem, escrito pela romancista Patricia Cornwell e publicado no ano de 1990. Desta forma, discute-se neste trabalho a construção dos medos no Ocidente e como o gênero literário Romance Policial contribuiu para esta construção. ABSTRACT: This final paper aims to analyze an idea of fear in the United States, especially in the 1980s, considering the following problem: how a construction of a new social typification, or serial killer, permeated or imagined and made it possible to build a new social fear? To this end, we used as source for this analysis the Postmortem Police Romance, written by novelist Patricia Cornwell and published in the year 1990. In this paper, we discuss a construction of fears in the West and how the literary novel Contribution policy for this construction. Keywords: Fear, Detective Fiction, Serial Killer.
